Advocacy Committee
The purpose of this committee is to advocate on behalf of the AAHE membership in predetermined areas of interest; to promote and enhance health education related to legislation; to organize grass roots responses to health education related legislation, and to raise public awareness of health related topics and issues. The Advocacy Committee is also responsible for the review and revision of the existing AAHE position statements and the development of new position statements as deemed necessary. Awards Committee
The purpose of this committee is the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of the recipients for the AAHE Professional Service, AAHE Distinguished Service, AAHE Scholar Awards, the AAHE nominee for Alliance Scholar, and the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of the recipients for the AAHE Health Education Professional of the Year Awards. The six categories of Awards for various practice settings in the field are as follows: Agency/ Public/Community, Business/Industry/Workplace, Clinical/Medical Care/Patient, College/University, Health Education Administrator, and School K-12. Board of Associate Editors
The purpose of the Board is to improve and maintain the quality of the American Journal Health Education and the International Electronic Journal of Health Education through the formulation and recommendation of policies and procedures for publication, as delegated by the American Association for Health Education (AAHE) Board of Directors, and through the planning and collecting of specific content for each periodical. Fellows Committee
The purpose of this committee is the annual solicitation, screening, and selection of AAHE Fellows. Chairperson Betty Hubbard.
Finance Committee
The purpose of this committee is to develop policies to guide the budget process and to provide guidance in long-term financial planning for the Association. Chairperson Caile Spear.
History and Philosophy Committee
The purpose of this committee is to develop and promote the historical foundation of AAHE, serve as a resource to AAHE and the Alliance* Archives regarding the collection and dissemination of historical information and documents regarding AAHE and health education, facilitate the substance and meaning of the historical and philosophical basis of health education among the members of AAHE, promote historical and philosophical research in the profession of health education, promote the inclusion of health education history and philosophy in professional preparation. Multicultural Involvement Committee
The purpose of this committee is to fulfill the AAHE goal of cultural pluralism. Chairperson Kele Ding.
NCATE Review Committee
The purpose of this committee is to set guidelines and procedures to monitor the professional standards for school health education teacher preparation programs, to assist teacher preparation institutions in preparing materials for AAHE/NCATE accreditation, to recruit and train folio review readers (with appropriate school health education experience) in the use of the Guidelines for AAHE/NCATE Review of Health Education Basic Level Programs, to determine AAHE/NCATE compliance of applicant institutions and provide suggestions for bringing non-compliant programs into compliance. Nominations Committee
The purpose of this committee is the annual solicitation, screening and ballot preparation of the nominees to serve on the Board of Directors of AAHE; and the bi-annual solicitation, screening and ballot preparation of the nominees for President-Elect of AAHE. Chairperson Steve Dorman.
Research Coordinating Board
The purpose of the Board is to promote research and its application to health education/promotion; enhance integration of research and practice; foster and promote interdisciplinary research; improve health education/promotion research methodology; translate and disseminate research findings; facilitate practitioner involvement in research activities; promote the development of research skills among AAHE members in all practice settings; recognize excellence in research and its application; develop and influence health policy through research findings; and serve as a resource to AAHE and the Alliance. SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Committee
The purpose of this committee is to develop an approval process for credentialing undergraduate programs that prepare professional health education specialists, to implement this process through utilizing information resulting from Program Self Study and external Site Team program review, and to recommend a program approval status based upon established criteria. The committee shall work closely with the Division of Professional Preparation of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Chairperson Carol Cox and Ellen Capwell.
Student Involvement Committee
The purpose of this committee is to establish an ongoing system for recognizing the outstanding seniors of professional programs that prepare professional health education specialists and to implement this process through timely notice to program heads. This program is entitled the "AAHE Outstanding Undergraduate Health Education Majors of the Year Awards." Chairperson Maureen Johnson.
