Brief Statement
Serving on the AAHE Board of Directors would be an honor, especially at this time of transition. After decades of splintered work, we are on the road to unifying the health profession. In this process, it is important that AAHE has strong advocates to work collaboratively in facilitating this unification, while also assuring that AAHE's legacy is honored.
The first priority for this transitional board will be the development of a seamless unified health education professional organization. This organization must be able to meet the needs of a diverse membership. This in itself will be an important role for the Board of Directors. However, this board must be forward thinking and begin the groundwork to advance the profession.
A unified voice is a catalyst for opening doors that have, in our fractured past, been beyond our reach. Having a large number of professionals with a shared mission increases the ability of the health education profession to lobby for its needs. Now is the time for the health education profession to move forward to begin laying the foundation that will allow health educators to be properly compensated for their work and the health education profession to be recognized for its professional expertise.
I am strongly committed to the profession of health education. I bring this commitment, along with a good deal of optimism, enthusiasm, and energy for health education to the AAHE Board. My work at the state, regional, and national levels in AAHPERD organizations would be an asset. I also believe that my excellence in interpersonal skills and my collaborative nature will be of benefit to the Board.
