Professionals interested in affiliating with AAHE for the purposes of a sabbatical or professional internship experience must have the following characteristics:
1.Be a professional in health education/health promotion or one of the following related professional fields: allied health professions, education, social science, and health communication.
2.Individuals employed at a university must hold rank of Assistant Professor or above.
3.Have a general understanding of health education principles and either the international, national or state organizations that deal with health education.
4.Be able and willing to provide personal professional liability insurance if requested.
AAHE has the following expectations of professional internships and/or sabbaticals
1.Projects must be compatible with the AAHE mission and strategic plan.
2.A written project proposal must be submitted in advance and accepted by the AAHE Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Alternatively, AAHE could devise the parameters and scope of a professional internship project and solicit candidates.
3.The professional would have demonstrated experience in the project activities being undertaken.
4.Projects must result in one or more defined product(s) or deliverable(s).
5.Products or deliverables produced will become the property of AAHE.
6.AAHE will provide no direct remuneration, but might provide some project expenses to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
1.The sabbatical/internship experience might be on-site in Reston or at a location chosen by the applicant
2.Workspace and equipment will be provided by AAHE if the individual chooses to work in Reston.
3.The individual might attend meetings with AAHE staff or leadership, or serve as a representative of AAHE as appropriate. When asked to do so, this will be at the expense of AAHE.
4.Individuals must be able to provide their transportation to and housing within the Reston area as needed. However, AAHE will provide up to one week lodging in the Reston area.
5.The professional internship is not defined by a specific length of time, but rather through the accomplishment of the product(s)/deliverables(s) described in the proposal.
