AAHPERD National Convention & Expo 

The AAHPERD National Convention and Expo is an opportunity for health educators to network with other working professionals and students, as well as learn about the latest methods and teaching information in health education. Attending convention is also a means for earning health education credits on site.

Professional Awards

AAHE offers numerous awards to health educators and health professionals whose contribution and continued support to the profession deserve recognition. Awards are presented at the Annual National Convention to those individuals who have served as a model of excellence. Learn More>> 

 
Advanced Level Certification

Health Education Credentialing, administered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC), is a way to designate that certain individuals or organizations have met or exceeded established standards.

The health education profession has chosen two certifications, Certified Health Education Specialist(CHES) and Master Certified Health Education Specialist(MCHES),as the means of recognizing individual credentialing for the profession. Learn more>>

Qualifications for health educators interested in pursuing certification include graduation from an accredited or approved program and acceptable performance on a qualifying examination or series of examinations. Register for the exam>> 

 
Accreditation Programs

Professional preparation programs that offer specialization in health education/health promotion may apply for program accreditation from one of several sources. 

Sources Include:

  • The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accredits teacher preparation programs. The American Association for Health Education is the NCATE specialty professional association (SPA) for health education and as such AAHE develops  health education teacher education standards and guidelines.   • The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredits public health preparation programs at both the graduate and graduate level. Learn More>> 
  • The SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Process (SABPAC) is an approval process for community health education undergraduate programs. Learn More>>

    The American Journal of Health Education
    is published six times a year (January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August, September/October, November/December) by AAHE. Members of the association are mailed bi-monthly hard copies & the journal is now available online for AAHE members.

  • International Electronic Journal of Health Education
    IEJHE
    was the first web-based, peer-reviewed journal in health education, promotion, and behavior. The journal features articles of that have a relevance to international audiences and that involve international programs and initiatives in health education and promotion. The journal is available online to members of AAHE/AAHPERD as well as outside individuals and groups.

AAHE Advocacy and Media
