Free Student Webinar Series
AAHE hosts a series of free, virtual, AAHE4ME student webinars. Webinar topics are proposed by students, health educators, and other health professionals and designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students a method to actively participants within the profession.  Attending and/or presenting student webinars gives students access to resources and information they need for classes and as future professionals.

Upcoming Possible Topics Include:

  • September 27, 2012: Different ways to get involved in with your hometown's community after graduation
  • February 7, 2013: What work location can best suite your professional and personal needs
  • How to apply what you learned in the classroom into possible careers    
  • Job search – under what titles   
  • What are the different accreditations that exist as well as certifications, programs and awards that can benefit your professional development

  • How to promote health education professionally, while personally it may be a struggle

Awards

Major of the Year Award
The American Association for Health Education (AAHE) Outstanding Health Education Majors of the Year Awards program recognizes one outstanding undergraduate student majoring in health education/promotion from each degree track of the colleges or universities with professional preparation degree programs in this area. The awards are presented during the Outstanding Undergraduate Health Education Majors of the Year Awards Ceremony during the AAHE/AAHPERD Annual Convention.

Scholarships

AAHE offers five scholarships for students currently enrolled in a full time health education major program at the undergraduate, masters, or doctoral level.

Barbara A. Cooley Scholarship, Master's Level  
This scholarship is for master's level students who are currently enrolled in a health education program. This award is a $1,000 scholarship, which recipients may spend in any manner they desire.

Bill Kane Scholarship, Undergraduate Level 
This award is a $1,000 scholarship awarded annually to an undergraduate health education major currently enrolled full-time at a college or university.

Delbert Oberteuffer Scholarship, Doctoral Level  
This scholarship is for doctoral level students currently enrolled in a health education program. The award is $1,500, which may be used at the discretion of the recipient.

Marion B. Pollock Fellowship, Master's Level
This is a $3,000 fellowship awarded to an eligible, talented, and committed teacher in an elementary, middle school, or high school for graduate study at the master's level.

Will Rogers Institute Fellowship
Each fellowship award will be $12,000. Recipients may utilize the award in any manner to support their educational activities. Upon completion of doctoral studies the recipient will submit a final report to the funding agency detailing the outcome of the fellowship studies. The awarded fellowship will be recognized at the annual Awards Luncheon at the AAHE/AAHPERD annual meeting.

Advanced Certification
Whether you are a graduating health education student or a practicing health educator becoming a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) is a great way to advance your career.

An individual designated with CHES has received an advanced certification that recognizes educators who have met or exceeded established standards and qualifications to be considered a certified health education specialist (CHES) include graduation from an accredited or approved program and acceptable performance on a qualifying examination or series of examinations.

Resources

AAHE offers students many beneficial resources one of the most important for students interested in pursuing a health education degree at an accredited university is the 2011 Directory of Institutions. This resource lists all accredit colleges and universities that offer a health education related track. Having a degree from an accredited university makes a difference when applying for internships, jobs, and graduate school programs.
