Advocacy 102: Incorporating Advocacy Skills into Profession Preparation Programs This session describes the importance of including health advocacy training in professional preparation programs. The program will provide examples of how advocacy activities can be incorporated into a variety of health education core courses. Participants will examine case studies to determine advocacy opportunities. A discussion of advocacy strategies (letter writing, representative visits, etc.) and delivery methods including using technology will be included. |

Sense in the Sun Skin cancer is preventable, yet multiple sunburns during childhood double the risk of melanoma in the future. Many schools lack sun protection policies and adequately shaded areas. This session will focus on how to establish adequate sun protection curricula and safe sun policies within a school district and individual buildings, ways to provide professional development for staff and faculty, and an outline of how to foster community involvement in implementing sun safety in the schools. |
