Dennis Docheff

Dennis Docheff currently serves as a professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Central Missouri (formerly Central Missouri State University) in Warrensburg, MO, a school he has been with since 2001 (he also served as an associate professor from 2001-05 and the department's chair from 2001-03).

Prior to 2001, Docheff was an associate professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Concordia University in Me­quon, WI (1999-2001); an associate professor in the Department of Physical Education at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY (1996-99); a teacher, counselor, and coach at Elma School District and Montesano School District in Washington (1991-96); Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Chair at Whitworth College in Spokane, WA (1990-91); Assistant Professor of Physical Education at Eastern Washington University (1987-90); and Principal, Athletic Director, and coach of Unified School District #365 in Garnett, KS (85-87).

He received his B.A. in Physical Education from Whitworth College in 1978, his Masters in School Administration from the same school in 1982, and his Ed.D. in Physical Education-Curriculum and Administration from the University of Northern Colo­rado in 1987. A NASPE and AAHPERD member since 1992, Docheff has served on NASPE's Sport Steering Committee (2007-08), Sports Award Com­mittee (2007-09), Coaches Council (2005-07), Coaching Standards Revision Team (2002-05), and was a Cabinet Member/Convention Coordinator (1999-2002).

He is also a member of AAHPERD's Stra­tegic Planning Committee (2008-11) and was a delegate to the AAH­PERD Assembly eight different times. Among his honors and awards, Docheff received AAHPERD's 2009 Central District Honor Award and the 2005 Scholar Award from the Missouri AHPERD. He was also nom­inated for both the Byler Distinguished Faculty Award and Governor's Excellence in Teaching Award in 2008 from the University of Central Missouri. To date, he has been published well over 100 times, and has had another 149 presentations (78 professional and 71 service).

Among his other professional achievements, Docheff was the President of the AAHPERD Central District and a member of its Structure and Func­tion Committee, Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship Committee, Site Selection Committee, Executive Director Evaluation Committee, and Financial Advisement Committee. He also served as an editor or reviewer on several professional journals, including both JOPERD and Strategies, and has coached sports on all levels, including football (16 years), basketball (12), track (seven), fencing, golf, and volleyball.

Patrick Fine

Patrick Fine is currently a K-5 physical education and health teach­er at Chesterfield Elementary School in the Rockwood School District in Missouri.

He's held the position since 2001 and was instrumental in helping Chesterfield become the first school in the state to re­ceive a STARS Level Two distinction from NASPE. Fine was among three teachers at the school who were honored at the 2007 Celebra­tion of Teaching Reception during AAHPERD's National Convention in Baltimore. His school again received STARS status in 2008 with the highest score to-date among STARS schools nationwide since the program's inception in 2004.

Prior to his current position with Ches­terfield, Fine was in administration working as the Energy Manager from 1992-2001, where he was responsible for operating a utility budget, recycling, safety, and telephone systems. He also served as a physical educator from 1989-92 at Woerther Elementary and Uthoff Valley Elementary, which are both in the Rockwood School District.

Fine received his B.S. in Physical Education in 1988 and his Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 2000. A National Board Certified Teacher, Fine is a member of both AAH­PERD and MOAHPERD and is a mentor for other schools in the STARS application process. He has performed several roles for NASPE, serv­ing as a member on the Use of Technology in Physical Education Position Paper, Technology Committee, PETE Technology Workshop Committee, and National Teacher of the Year Selection Committee.

Among his honors and awards, Fine was named the St. Louis District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2008 and the Missouri Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year that same year. He was also awarded the Exemplary Gold Award in 2005 from the MOAHPERD. Well known for his work and experience in the field, Fine has pre­sented many times on topics ranging from technology in physical education to NASPE's PE Metrics and STARS. Some of his noteworthy professional presentations include: "The Use of Technology in PE" ('09 PETE Conference); "The NASPE STARS and National Board Cer­tification Process" ('09 MOAHPERD Workshop); "A Principal's Dream: Fitness linked to Academic Success" ('09 AAHPERD National Conven­tion); "PETE Pilot Technology Workshop, Use of Technology in PE" ('09 AAHPERD National Convention); "PE Metrics" ('08 MOAHPERD Con­vention); "Podcasting in Physical Education" ('08 AAHPERD National Convention); and "The Use of Technology in Physical Education and Health" ('07 AzHPERD Convention).

Elaine Lindsay

Elaine Lindsay presently serves as the Executive Director of the Maryland AHPERD. She assumed this position after a 32-year career as a high school health and physical education teacher and coach in Baltimore County, Md.

Following her high school work, she taught methods classes and supervised student teachers at the University of Maryland in College Park. While there, she helped write and research the effectiveness of an elementary school curriculum that consisted of 90 science based physical education lessons. This curriculum was then presented at several AAHPERD and state conferences.

In her current position, she has testified at government hearings on the need to increase educational time in health and physical ed­ucation. She is currently heading a MAHPERD committee, which is developing a "Report Card" to distribute to all state principals, PTA presidents, legislators, Board of Education members, and district su­perintendents. Each month she compiles pertinent advocacy informa­tion, which is distributed to MAHPERD members via the MAHPERD eNews.

In 1996, Elaine was selected as the High School NASPE Teacher of the Year. She has since had the opportunity to conduct professional development seminars throughout the U.S. and Canada on the topics of "Strengthening Your Physical Education Program with Innovative Fitness Strategies and Activities" and "The New Physical Education." She has also presented Physical Best, Fitnessgram, and Pipeline work­shops.

Elaine received a B.S. degree at what was formerly Frostburg State College, a Masters of Liberal Arts Degree at Western Maryland Col­lege, now McDaniel College, and is currently taking classes on Non-Profit Management at the Community College of Baltimore County.

Carolyn Masterson

Carolyn Masterson is currently an associate professor in the Depart­ment of Exercise Sciences and Physical Education at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, a position she has held since 2001. She is also the department's coordinator of the Masters of Arts, the Initial Teaching Certification Program, and the Initial and Advance NCATE Department Coordinator.

Prior to Montclair, Masterson was an assis­tant professor at William Paterson University (1999-2001) and Health and Physical Education Supervisor at the Elizabeth Morrow School in Englewood, NJ (1985-99). She received her B.S. in Health and Physi­cal Education from the College of Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati, then her Masters in Physical Education from Columbia University Teachers College in New York, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teaching also from Columbia.

An active member on both the state and national level, Mas­terson currently serves on NASPE's Student Services Committee, a post she's had since 2008. She also was on NASPE's Physical Best and FITNESSGRAM Steering Committee from 1995-2007, serving as the chairperson from 2003-05. She was nominated for both the 2009 AAHPERD Outstanding Mentor of the Year Award and the 2008 East­ern District Honor Award. She also received the 2006 Honor Award from the NJAHPERD.

To date, she has had 14 journal articles published, including five in the last two years. She also had her first two books published within the last two years, and has made another 100 presentations (19 inter­nationally, 50 nationally, and 31 on the district and state level).

Among her other professional achievements, she is currently a member of the New Jersey Education Association, American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCSD), the National Association for Physical Educa­tion in Higher Education (NAPEHE), and the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. Bonnie Blankenship

Bonnie Blankenship is currently an associate professor of Health and Kinesiology (PETE) and Undergraduate Program Director at Pur­due University, but spent parts of the last 20 years as an assistant professor of Physical Education at Georgia State University (1996-2003) and Old Dominion University (1993-96), and a graduate re­search assistant at the University of South Carolina (1990-93) and University of North Carolina, Greensboro (1988-89).

A member of AAHPERD/NASPE since 1990, Blankenship recently published her own book, The Psychology of Teaching Physical Educa­tion: From Theory to Practice in 2008. She has also published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and presented over 40 times.

She earned her Ph.D. in Sport Pedagogy/Motor Learning Concentra­tion, Research Methods/Statistics Supporting Area in 1993 from the University of South Carolina.

Sarah Lee

Sarah Lee is the physical activity health scientist in the Division of Adolescent & School Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she provides expertise on numerous scientific doc­uments, resources, surveillance studies, and CDC-funded programs related to youth physical activity, physical education, and childhood obesity prevention.

Her research interests include school policies and environmental influences on physical activity among youth, physical activity assessment, and designing effective comprehensive physical activity programs for young people. She has published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals on these topics.

Sarah also is the lead author on CDC's Physical Educa­tion Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT), the upcoming second edition of CDC's Guidelines for Schools to Promote Lifelong Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Among Young People, and the recently released Youth Physical Activity Guidelines Toolkit. Sarah earned her Ph.D. in Exercise and Wellness Education from Arizona State University.
