Fitness and Physical Activity Professionals of all Disciplines

AAPAR is one of the five National Associations that make up AAHPERD. As a professional member you may select any two (one if you are a student) as part of your AAHPERD membership.

AAPAR is perfect for anyone who promotes meaningful physical activity, adapted physical activity, and recreation fitness across the lifespan. Our 8,600 educational and community leaders include college professors, administrators, elementary, middle school, and high school physical educators, community recreation leaders, fitness program directors and instructors, and other fitness professionals.

You don't have to have an advanced degree to join nor be in a leadership role. Anyone who cares about what we care about—fitness and fun for all for life—is welcome to be an AAPAR member.

If you care care about what we care about—fitness and fun for all for life—then you've found a professional home at AAPAR. So join AAPAR/AAHPERD and support our team!

Membership Benefits

AAPAR helps members develop their careers by accrediting physical education, adapted physical education, and recreation sports programs; conducting conferences and workshops; and publishing scholarly and trade journals, books, and research. We offer many ways to enhance your career:

  • teacher certification, training workshops, teaching assessment
  • teaching resources, mentoring
  • teacher credentials, CEUs
  • recreation adventure opportunities
  • advocacy at the national level
  • up-to-date information on specific interest areas, journals, and other publications.

AAPAR members can PARticipate in three special interest groups, known as Councils (up to six Councils if you select AAPAR twice). AAPAR's Councils form the heart of our association, offering workshops, socials, and other opportunities for professional development and networking.

AAPAR members lead and connect with other professionals. They form meaningful, productive relationships with other professionals. They learn. They develop leadership skills that can be used anywhere. Plus, members are immediately entitled to a wealth of other benefits through their membership in AAHPERD.

So PARticipate! It's good for you—you'll meet interesting, intelligent, well-connected people—and it's good for us, because we'll benefit from your energy and expertise. Even if you're not an AAPAR member, you can download free resources and purchase our publications.
