2010 Herbert de Vries Recipient Announced
Dr. Anthony A. Vandervoort, associate dean at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, is the recipient of the 2010 Herbert de Vries Research Award for Distinguished Research on Aging, given by AAPAR's Council on Aging and Adult Development (CAAD). Vandervoort is studying the effects of aging on human neuromuscular function and the application to rehabilitation programs for older adults with mobility impairment.
In addition to being widely published on the topic of aging and adult development, he is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity and co-author of the textbook Physiotherapy with Older People.
Vandervoort will be presented with the award at the 21st Annual CAAD Symposium on Research on Aging, which takes place at the AAHPERD National Convention & Exposition in Indianapolis, March 16 – 20, 2010. More information is forthcoming about the topic of his presentation.
Dr. Herbert de Vries, for whom the award is named, passed away in October at his home in California, just days before his 92nd birthday.
