Register for our Adventure Based Learning Workshop

Would you like to incorporate the Adventure Based Learning (ABL) model into your physical education class but aren't sure how? Then this hands-on workshop, offered jointly by AAPAR and AAHPERD Midwest District, is for you. You'll experience and discuss the key components of the ABL model and learn strategies for increasing your competency in applying it.

The Adventure Based Learning 101 & Beyond workshop will teach you the proper sequencing of Adventure Based Learning activities to promote the social and personal development of your students; how to model and develop appropriate facilitation skills, and how to debrief the activities using the "Sunday Afternoon Drive" model, designed specifically for novice facilitators within the time constraints of a physical education class. The model is an extension of Kolb's (1984) Experiential Learning Cycle.

Once you have the appropriate training and knowledge in each of these components, you will be able to successfully implement the program in your school or community group.

Adventure Based Learning provides appropriate physical and intellectual challenges for your students. Learn how to teach them to build trust, set goals, overcome challenges and stresses, solve problems, and most of all, have fun!

Take-Aways

  • A deeper understanding of ABL and its use to foster inter- and intra-personal development with students of all ages and in a variety of settings.
  • A CD that includes lesson plans for a 20-day ABL unit designed for middle school students and the Sunday Afternoon Drive debrief model.
  • A certificate of completion with evidence of contact hours.
