NCPERID Holds 2012 Conference at AAHPERD

The National Consortium for Physical Education and Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPERID) held their annual conference at AAHPERD headquarters in Reston, VA. July 19th – 21st. NCPERID's mission is to promote research, professional preparation, service delivery, and advocacy of Physical Education and Recreation for individuals with disabilities. This marks the 7th year the conference has been held at AAHPERD. "We are excited to collaborate with NCPERID again this year" said Chris Neumann, Interim Executive Director of AAPAR. "Our mutual commitment to advancing research and standards of practice for individuals with disabilities makes this a natural partnership."

The Consortium plays a major role in shaping the direction of adapted physical education and therapeutic recreation in this country.  Its membership has been active in promoting legislation as evidenced by NCPERID's leadership on the U.S. Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare's "National Advisory Committee on PE and Recreation for Handicapped Children and Youth."
