FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Northern Virginia Power Soccer Wins 2011 Tommy Wilson Grant

RESTON, VA, March 31, 2011 - Northern Virginia Power Soccer has been named a winner of the 2011 Tommy Wilson Grant. The award, given by the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR), honors Tommy Wilson, who was born with cerebral palsy and passed away in 1974 at the age of 16. It was set up by Dr. George T. Wilson and his wife, Irene, in memory of their son.

"We're so pleased to be making this contribution to Northern Virginia Power Soccer" says Mariah Burton Nelson, the AAPAR executive director. "AAPAR is committed to promoting recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, in keeping with the wishes of Tommy Wilson's family."

Northern Virginia Power Soccer provides individuals with physical disabilities aged five and up, who use a power wheelchair, the opportunity to be a part of a competitive sports team. Participation in the Northern Virginia Power Soccer is free, giving everyone the opportunity to participate. BlazeSports America offers this program in collaboration with the Fairfax County, Virginia, Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS).

The grant money of about $500 will be used to purchase proper equipment, so the team can join the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) and participate in sanctioned games and tournaments against other teams.
