Ms. Nancy Rud-Gordon has been a developmental adapted physical education teacher in the Burnsville School District for 19 years. She teaches students in all grade levels at the Early Education Program and Services Center. Nancy provides a variety of curriculum, activities, and equipment to meet the needs of all of her students, in short, whatever it takes to capture their interest and get them to work hard. Nancy collaborated with a colleague to develop a “Due Process Manual” for the district, which included state guidelines and specific examples of student assessments and IEPs. Ms. Cindy Hart, one of Nancy’s nominators, stated that “She absolutely changed the way I viewed my students with disabilities. Nancy taught me to focus on the child first and the disability second.” Nancy has also served as a leader for the DAPE profession in her district and the state of Minnesota. She has served as a member of the MAHPERD Board of Directors, the Minnesota DAPE State Leadership Committee, and Chairperson of the annual DAPE conference, as well as presented at the state conference and served as a mentor to new DAPE teachers. Ms. Nancy Rud-Gordon has dedicated her professional career to teaching physical education to students with disabilities.
