Adapted Aquatics Instructor Options
AAPAR offers teaching credentials in four aspects of adapted aquatics: Instructor, and Master Teacher, Assistant, Adjunct.
Adapted Aquatics Instructor (AAI)
Provides certified aquatics instructors with the skills, knowledge, and etiquette to safely and effectively implement quality adapted aquatics programs in a variety of settings.

Prerequisites
Age 18 +
Current CPR certification (including adult, child, infant)
Current first aid certification
Current AED certification
Current instructor certificate in instructional swim from a national agency (WSI, YMCA instructor)
Master Teacher of Adapted Aquatics (MTAA)
Prepares current adapted aquatics instructors to teach the Adapted Aquatics Instructor course. This credential requires acceptance/review of the instructor's resume/teaching experience, and acceptance into and successful completion of the master teacher workshop. This is offered on a limited basis usually in conjunction with an AAHPERD district or national conference.
Adapted Aquatics Assistant (AAA)
Prepares participants to work in adapted aquatics under the supervision of an adapted aquatics instructor.
Prerequisites
Age: 14 years old+
Pass an intermediate Level-3 swimming test
Physical strength sufficient to assist people with disabilities
Adapted Aquatics Adjunct (AAAdj)
Prepares professionals to work in adapted aquatics under the supervision of an adapted aquatics instructor. The same material, test, and practicum as the instructor course.
Prerequisites
Age 18+
Current CPR certification (including adult, child, infant)
Current first aid certification
Degree in special education, adapted physical education, therapeutic recreation, or physical or occupational therapy
Pass an intermediate Level-3 swimming test
Physical strength sufficient to assist people with disabilities
