Michelle Obama Launching Nationwide Effort to Battle Childhood Obesity

Michelle Obama met with members of Congress and Cabinet Secretaries on February 2 to discuss her soon-to-be-released initiative to battle childhood obesity. She announced the four pillars of her plan, which are:

• increase the number of healthy schools in this country
• increase the level of regular physical activity that kids are getting in this country
• improving the accessibility and affordability of foods
• empower consumers to make better choices in their own lives

AAHPERD is mobilized and ready to respond to the initiative, which is scheduled to be announced in detail on February 9th.
