Thanks to Title IX more and more girls and women are motivated to not only aspire to achieve great accomplishments in the world of sport and athletics, but also in other aspects of their lives.
The path to the one of the most vital legislations ever to impact high school and collegiate athletics has been long and hard.
National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) member Shawn Ladda, a professor in the Department of Physical Education & Human Performance at Manhattan College, contributed to the current issue of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition's Research Digest, published quarterly. The article provides a brief overview of the historical and legal challenges faced by women, in an effort to document the dramatic changes that Title IX have produced in female athletic participation and performance over the last 40 years.
