Position of Executive Director

The Central District Association (CDA) of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) seeks applicants for the position of Executive Director.

Qualifications:

The Executive Director (ED) will have an HPERD background (preferred), hold a minimum of a Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred), have excellent written and oral skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and be technologically literate. The ED must have experience in management, business administration, budgeting, and public relations/advocacy, shall have been a member of the Alliance and their state association at least five consecutive years, shall have been a member of the District Executive Board, shall have attended two of the last five District Conventions.

Responsibilities: 

The ED serves as the chief administrative officer for CDA. S/he coordinates the day-to-day operations of the organization; informs and advises the Executive Board and members; provides leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, continuity, and consistency in the functioning of CDA. The ED will be willing to travel, represent CDA, speak to groups as directed or requested by the Executive Board, will seek sources of outside funding and establish collaborative relationships with the corporate world and other related Associations.  S/he will work with AAHPERD to maximize the potential of CDA investments. The ED will also maintain a central office as a permanent location for all Association information, official documents and files. Other duties include but not limited to:

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Serve as ex oficio member of Executive Committee and Executive Board
  • Convention Site Selection
  • General Manager of the Association
  • Acts as consultant to the District Presidents
  • Advises Standing Committees
  • Acts as consultant to the President and Convention Manager regarding annual convention
  • Attends all official meetings of the District
  • Attend District and national conventions, AAHPERD Leadership Summit, District Summit/Midyear Executive Board Meeting
  • Serve on Structure/Function Committee
  • Moderate conference calls
  • Facilitate State Executive Director meetings at District Convention and conference calls

This position is considered part-time with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The starting salary is negotiable depending upon experience. A budget for travel, phone, postage/e-mail and other professional fees is provided.The position is contractual, renewable annually and is evaluated biannually.
