The Scholar Program provides the means through which the Midwest District AAHPERD recognizes an individual with an outstanding record of scholarly publications and presentations and active service to health, physical education, recreation, dance, and/or sport.
The Midwest District AAHPERD, attentive to its responsibility to sponsor scholarship among its members and to its commitment to “encourage and facilitate research and learning which will enrich the depth and scope of heath, leisure, and movement related activities; and to disseminate this knowledge to the profession and other interested and concerned publics,” initiates the Scholar Program.
The individual shall have a scholarly record for a number of years as evidenced by publication and scholarly presentations, such as:

The individual shall be an AAHPERD member and should be a significant contributor to areas of Alliance concern, such as:
All applicants must submit six typed and complete applications to the Chair of the Midwest District AAHPERD Recognition and Awards Committee by August 15. Application materials should include:
The Midwest District Recognition and Awards Committee will select one Scholar recipient from the applications and present the nominee to the MDAAHPERD Board of Directors for approval. The recipient will be notified by October 1(or immediately following the Midwest District AAHPERD Fall Leadership Conference) and be presented with the award at his/her state HPERD conference.
The Scholar Lecture shall be proposed to be delivered at the AAHPERD national convention, a district event, (i.e. Midwest Leadership or Council workshop) or a state HPERD conference. Any state interested in inviting the Midwest District Scholar for a presentation may make arrangements directly with the Scholar. Travel and hotel expenses within financial limits set by the Midwest Board may be provided to the Scholar ( all expenses must receive prior Board approval in order to be reimbursed) or by specific prearrangements made with the state requesting the Scholar Lecture.
