DonateAAHPERD bylaws identify guidelines for standing and special committees. Standing Committees perform continuing functions and are governed by operating codes. Special Committees include president's committees, ad hoc committees, and joint committees. They are appointed as the need arises, to carry out specified tasks. AAHPERD specifies 17 standing committees:
Screens and recommends nominations for the Alliance Scholar. Read more about the Alliance Scholar program.
Directs the collection and management of the records of historical value and vital to the continued operation of the Alliance organization.
Provides oversight of the integrity of financial information, reviews the system of Alliance internal controls, and monitors the audit process.
Edits and interprets provision in the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws.
Advises the Board of Governors on the Criteria for Success assessment of Alliance structures.
Advises the Board of Governors on all financial matters; reviews, evaluates, and finalizes a balanced budget for consideration by the BOG.
Facilitates and coordinates Alliance association efforts and initiatives to advance and support professional practice and research related to international topics, involvement and, collaborations and research.
Establishes guidelines to evaluate investment performance.
Identifies individuals who are qualified to serve as president-elect of AAHPERD; selects two individuals to run for this office. More information>>
Selects student members to be recognized as recipients of the Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship. More information>>
Supports key advocacy initiatives, legislative affairs needs, and public relations efforts in the areas of health, leisure, and movement-related activities at the national, district and state level.
Nominates appropriate persons for awards and conducts the selection of award recipients. More information>>
Supports programs and activities for retired members; maintains a communication network between national, district, state and local levels. More information>>
Facilitates and coordinates the development of a Strategic Plan for the Alliance.
Promotes social justice and diversity in all Alliance activities; charged to address issues related, but not limited, to race/ethnicity, culture, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, social economic class, religion, and professional status.
Maintains structure and functions within AAHPERD; receives, reviews and recommends on all requests for structural changes.
Advises and monitors student issues, interests, and needs; gives direction and input about student activities across the associations of the Alliance.
