Portland State University will hold a week of events in honor of the 26th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). The theme this year is “Title IX at 40: In it for the Long Run.” The week of events at Portland State University are a part of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country and recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 10:00-2:00 PM Stop by our table outside Parkway North in Smith Memorial Student Union. 5:00-6:30 PM National Girls and Women’s Day Title IX Feminist Kickball Game at Stott Field. Come join us for a fun non-competitive game of kickball. No experience necessary! Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 10:00-2:00 PM Stop by our table outside Parkway North in Smith Memorial Student Union. 4:30-6:45 PM NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY SPEAKER PANEL Join us for this celebration of female athletes! Speakers include our very own Women’s Head Basketball Coach, Sherri Murrell; Founder & CEO of Aries Apparel, Diana Marsden; and 2006 Women’s Ice Hockey Olympic bronze medal winner, Kelly Tysland. There will be free food, raffle prizes, FREE Basketball tickets for the game that evening and FREE headbands to the first 200 people! 7:00PM Women’s Basketball Game PSU vs Weber State at Peter Stott Center. Saturday, February 4th, 2012 TITLE IX – CELEBRATING 40 YEARS! 2:00PM Women’s Basketball Game PSU vs Northern Arizona at Peter Stott Center Join us at the women’s basketball game as we honor former PSU coaches and student-athletes throughout the game. Post-Game Reception Join the Athletics Department for refreshments, Title IX activities, and hear from amazing women about their experiences in collegiate athletics. |
