Mission

We're passionate about our mission ― to increase physical activity, outdoor play, and healthy eating among Head Start and Early Head Start children, families, and staff.  To reduce childhood obesity and its associated costs ― and to raise happy, healthy children ― it takes active, engaged, and informed parents, families, communities and early childhood professionals working in partnership. Together, we can all make a difference in the lives of young children.

HSBS has three main objectives:

1. To inform and assist the Office of Head Start in setting national priorities and developing policies (ongoing).
2. To provide resources, training, and technical assistance to Head Start and Early Head Start Centers (ongoing).
3. To administer and support grants for construction or improvement of outdoor play spaces at Head Start Programs (completed September, 2012).
