Play Space Grant Information
Over the course of four years, Head Start Body Start National Center for Physical Development and Outdoor Play (HSBS) awarded 1,574 grants to Head Start and Early Head Start programs across the country – that's almost 8 million dollars in grant funds that helped bring underutilized outdoor play spaces to vibrant life. From gardens to trike paths – and many things in between – HSBS has helped programs Take it Outside!
Without a doubt, these play spaces and outdoor classrooms are the crowning achievement for HSBS. Each day, we know that countless young children across the country will move, play and learn in dynamic ways outdoors – and love every minute of it. Combined with the resources and training and professional development opportunities provided by HSBS, these enhanced play spaces are a recipe for active play, meaningful movement, and a host of health and school readiness benefits that can truly be found when you Take it Outside!
Congratulations to the staff and communities of the 1,574 HSBS grantees. Be sure to learn more about individual centers on our In the Spotlight page, and watch the video below.
