AAHPERD is pleased to announce the release of the 2011 Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP) Survey Report. Over 1,200 participants completed the survey, which was administered by AAHPERD to better understand how schools across the United States are implementing the components of a CSPAP at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Importantly, the results indicate that many of the components and sub-components of the CSPAP are being implemented by a majority of schools, while other components are being implemented by a small percentage of schools. In analyzing results across all components, a low percentage of schools are currently offering a comprehensive program.
The 2011 survey represents a baseline survey that is intended to be repeated periodically to measure progress and assess trends related to before-, during-, and after-school physical activity. The findings will be used to inform the Let's Move in School initiative with the goal of facilitating the full implementation of a CSPAP with quality physical education as the foundation in schools across the United States.
