Physical education teachers, classroom teachers, principals, superintendents, school boards, and parents are all a part of the solution for increasing school physical education and physical activity and reversing the childhood obesity epidemic. AAHPERD/NASPE welcomes these strategic partner organizations whose members and constituents influence school district/school policies and practices.
The American Association of School Administrators (AASA), founded in 1865, is the professional organization for more than 13,000 educational leaders in the United States and throughout the world. AASA members range from chief executive officers, superintendents and senior level school administrators to cabinet members, professors and aspiring school system leaders.
Founded in 1943, ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is an educational leadership organization dedicated to advancing best practices and policies for the success of each learner. ASCD's 160,000 members in 148 countries are professional educators from all levels and subject areas––superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members.
The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), founded in 1921, is a professional organization serving elementary and middle school principals and other education leaders throughout the United States, Canada, and overseas. NAESP believes that the progress and well-being of the individual child must be at the forefront of all elementary and middle-school planning and operations.
In existence since 1916, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is the preeminent organization of and national voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and aspiring school leaders from across the United States and more than 45 countries around the world. The mission of NASSP is to promote excellence in school leadership.
The National School Boards Association (NSBA) is a not-for-profit organization representing state associations of school boards and their member districts across the United States. NSBA mission is "working with and through our state associations, to advocate for equity and excellence in public education through school board leadership." NSBA achieves that mission by representing the school board perspective in working with federal government agencies and national organizations that impact education, and provides vital information and services to State Associations of school boards throughout the nation.
