Highlight Physical Education at Back to School Night
- Prepare an announcement inviting parents to come and visit physical education class during Back-to-School night
- Include a book mark that includes highlights about your PE program and your contact information
- Include a back-to-school checklist for your students
- Prepare a table with take-away information for parents
- Create a one-page summary of what your students will learn this year in class
- Share a PE Program website with parents
- Share class expectations and important documents specifically for parents, such as course syllabus, important dates and expectations for students
- Share strategies parents can implement at home to get their children active

- Include the first issue of your monthly PE Newsletter
- Create a welcoming classroom atmosphere by:
- Smiling at parents as they enter the room
- Offering alternate times to meet if parents are unavailable
- Displaying student work
- Being yourself - the way you are with the students
- Initiate communication with parents and get parents involved by:
- Asking parents to sign in and write their email/phone number
- Trying to talk to each parent personally
- Asking parents introduce themselves and say who their child is
- Invite parents to come and observe classes
- Invite parents to volunteer; provide a sign-up sheet
- Plan a program of activities that includes information about:
- Student expectations
- Grading policies and protocols
- Procedures concerning illness/injury
- Homework expectations
- Expectations for daily physical activity outside of school
- Any physical activity programs offered at your school
- Contact information for you at school
