NAGWS Announces Mary Jennings Scholarship Winner

December 4, 2009  Reston, VA- Brooke Steinhoff of Powell, OH is named as the recipient of the Mary Jennings Sport Camp Scholarship by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) for Fall 2009. 

Brooke Steinhoff is a 7th grader at Hyatts Middle School in Powell, OH was selected from a pool of applicants from across the country.  Brooke will be attending a 2009 winter lacrosse camp at the University of Virginia. To qualify for the scholarship applicants submitted an application, a one-page personal essay, camp application, and their most recent grades. The applications were then reviewed by the Mary Jennings Scholarship Committee. The winner was announced by Dr. Kim Bush, NAGWS Vice President of Professional Development.

The Mary Jennings Sport Camp Scholarship Fund was established by NAGWS in memory of New Jersey soccer player Mary Jennings to honor her commitment, drive, and dedication to sport and academics. The scholarship is for girls ages 10-14 who wish to attend a sport camp of their choice. NAGWS will apply the funds to the tuition of the camp chosen by the winner. Applications for the scholarship are accepted on an ongoing basis in two calendar blocks with deadlines of February 1 and October 1 annually. NAGWS plans to recognize at last two student-athletes per year.
