On April 21, 2010, the House passed a modified version of the FIT Kids Act, sponsored by Congressman Ron Kind (D-WI). Thanks to all of you who called and emailed your Representatives. Your voices have made a difference for our children.
In his supporting remarks on the House floor, Cong. Kind said that children need to be "taught at an early age the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle." The bill would require school districts to make public information on the quality and quantity of physical education in our nation's schools and call for a National Research Council study on the association between physical education and activity, and cognitive performance and academic performance. Passage of this bill is a great step toward federal support for daily quality physical education. NASPE will continue to work to increase recognition of physical education within the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Learn More >>
