The U.S. Department of Education awarded 56 grants totaling $27 million to school districts and community organizations who plan to implement comprehensive physical fitness and nutrition programs for their students through the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP). See a list of PEP grant recipients.
PEP was funded at $78.7 million for FY 2012. Since PEP grants are funded over a three-year cycle, each year the school districts and community organizations that are in year two and year three of their grant cycles are funded first. Then the Department of Education uses the remaining money to fund new grants.
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) provides grants to local educational agencies, school districts and community-based organizations to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education programs that help students in Kindergarten through 12th grade meet their state standards for physical education.
Tell your Congressmen to continue to support the PEP grant and to fund it in the FY 2013 budget!
