| Submission Entry: | The year is 2020 and due to the rising obesity epidemic throughout the United States, P.E. has become mandatory all throughout an individual's academic career. However, this is not the P.E. of being taken out to the track for the period and running laps. Students will be allowed to focus on different subjects throughout the year based on areas of interest and academic study. Students will also test out new forms of exercises and equipment. In order to pass, they will have to log a certain amount of minutes per week working out and have set personal goals at the beginning of class that they expect to complete before the end of the class ( certain amount of weight lost, 15 pounds added to bench, increase in vertical jump, etc.). When they arrive for their class, they will log into their personal database, where all their stats (height, weight, percentage of body fat, sports background, etc) are located and record any changes (weight lost, gained, etc). They also will have the option to record additional workouts and personalize workout goals so that a computer generated workout can be printed out with exactly what they will need to get done in the workout period to reach specific goals. Teachers will be available to monitor workout progress, teach new classes to students wanting to try new forms of exercise, correct form of students and answer any questions. At the end of the period, students will log back in and enter what parts of the workout they were able to complete and the computer will track their progress. If a student meets and/or exceeds all their expectations, then they will be allowed to move on. If the student does not meet the expectations, they will not be allowed to graduate until doing so. By requiring students to meet a minimum number of minutes worked out per week and keeping track of it through a computer based program, then every student will have the chance to better their lives through physical education, as well as have discovered what exercises are personal favorites which will help keep them committed to leading a healthy life and fitting physical fitness into their lives. |
