Submission Entry: PE2020:  Into the Future

PE in the future will involve a few changes in how we do things.  Teachers and students alike will use the Internet for communication especially in the area of demonstrating healthy living.  Students will use video to post examples of fitness-related activities they are participating in as a method for teachers to assess the progressive steps in developing lifelong fitness.  These videos will not only be a recording of the activity, but also include a detailed description of why the student enjoys the activity as well as all the health benefits derived from doing it.

Schools will also look different.  To promote healthy living in every area academic teachers will include step breaks in their content.  Students will be required to take a break where they must attain a certain number of steps within the specified time thus reducing the amount of time spent standing around and talking.  Furthermore, all teachers will be actively involved in healthy living practices.  Fitness centers will be available to them before and after school, as well as during break time.  Lunches will provide more healthy choices and be extended in order to allow for eating and organized physical activity.

After school programs will occur that involve parents, students, and teachers.  These groups will come to the schools to participate in physical activities that students do in the Physical Education classes. Some will play games while others will assess their fitness levels.  Community members and organizations will be invited in order to give presentations on healthy living whether it be advice or availability of resources.  All this will promote fit living and help reduce the overall obesity level of our society as we come together to combat this issue.
