| Submission Entry: | The future of physical education is in our hands as we are the ones who are ultimately responsible for our future. Now is the best time in history to be involved in health prevention versus health intervention which costs considerably more to fund. Teaching will be focused more on teaching the “total” person to meet each individual’s entire unique healthful living needs. We must utilize a much more comprehensive approach in relation to all of an individual’s health needs. We must become much more interdisciplinary in our programs for our own survival. When it is all said and done, we need programs that focus on skillful, fit, joyful, life-long learning. Program improvement will require changing the model/paradigm of the past to one that focuses much more on the total health needs of each individual. Programs in physical education must begin to take on a much stronger health focus and we must help future teachers become better prepared in activities that would be considered lifelong pursuits. Preparation for tomorrow will require considerable introspection of all of our programs. It will require us to give up some of the past and move to content that focuses on prevention of lifetime disease and a lifetime of healthful living. |
