Applicants for State Teacher of the Year Awards must turn in the entire application packet to their appropriate state designee by the publicized state deadline. (This date may vary by the state association. Applicants should check with the state president, Executive Director, or Awards chairperson for the correct deadline date).
No later than October 15 state awards chairpersons are requested to select one State Teacher of the Year for each of the three levels and forward the recipients' names and applications, criteria/essay responses, recommendation letters, and publicity forms to:
The State AHPERD winners' packets must be received at AAHPERD (Programs Office) by October 15. AAHPERD will check to be sure the state winner packets are complete and that the state winners are also members of NASPE/AAHPERD. The Programs Office will then send the packet of materials to the appropriate district awards committee designee by November 1. The nomination packets for nominees who did not apply for the State Awards will also be sent at this time to the appropriate District.
No later than December 15 district selection committees will select one District Teacher of the Year for each of the three levels and notify the AAHPERD Programs Office of their selections.
The AAHPERD Programs Office will notify NASPE of the District Teachers of the Year going on to the national level. The District Teachers of the Year will be contacted by a NASPE representative by January 1 to begin planning for their responsibilities at the AAHPERD National Convention.
