Babler Elementary School

Two full time and two part time teachers provide physical education for 602 students at Babler Elementary School.  Grades K through 5 have daily physical education with the exception of half day kindergarten students.  One of 19 elementary schools in the Rockwood School District, the school is located in rural St Louis County, in the town of Wildwood, MO.   Babler has a very active program that places emphasis on fitness.  Their motto is "Making Fitness Fun" --   disguising fitness through high activity and music for enjoyment.   Each class begins with a 10-12 minute fitness routine that gets students moving as soon as they enter the gym.  A variety of fitness routines are taught to the students so that the daily fitness routine is changed.  Games that have wait time are avoided.  Technology applications including PDA's for tracking student work, Powerpoint, video, Smart Notebook, and heart rate monitors are used to provide alternate ways of delivering content and providing immediate feedback to students.
