Taneytown Elementary School

Taneytown Elementary School, located in rural northern Maryland, has 492 students, grades K-5 who receive physical education instruction in 2 or 3 classes per week totaling 90 minutes for all grades from one full time and one part time teacher. The curriculum is based on Maryland state standards.  A Play Day which re-visits major units taught during the year is followed by each student K-5 creating a S.C.R.A.P. Book which serves as a unique culminating assessment. The program has been recognized as a 2007 Maryland Demonstration Site. A.C.E.S.  (Active Children Excel in School) is an all-school project conducted in October which has students recording physical activity for 14 days has resulted in 92% student participation and great enthusiasm throughout the school. A final project for fifth graders is an electronic presentation, "My Sportfolio," which summarizes topics learned and includes multiple assessments representing all standards.
