Tarwater Elementary schools is located in a rapidly developing, culturally and economically diverse school district in Arizona. One full time and one part time teacher provide physical education instruction for 896 students, grades K-6, at least twice per week. The physical education program is considered an integral part of the school curriculum and is considered as an important part of student achievement of the school.
The school has recently been awarded by the state as one of the "EXCELLING" schools. Tarwater has had the opportunity through funding of various grants to provide "NEW" PE to their students. A climbing wall, many clubs outside of the regular school day and several special events (JRFH, Fun Runs, sports teams, Turn Off TV week) provide many physical activity opportunities for students. The school has a 2 week break between each 9 week period. Tax credits are provided to citizens who make donations to schools which provide a unique funding resource. The program is based on a commercial curriculum and Physical Best combined. Students in this school are fortunate to be a part of the PE program offered.
