Current STARS Schools
The NASPE STARS program is a national recognition program developed and implemented by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). STARS is NASPE's national achievement program recognizing outstanding physical education programs in K-12 schools across America. Schools were invited to participate in the STARS self-study and review process from 2004-2010. Each school identified as a STARS school completed a comprehensive program review, submitting evidence of how the school implements 31 criteria representing the essential elements of a quality physical education program. The portfolio submitted by the school was reviewed and scored by a panel of national reviewers. Through the STARS self-study and review process, NASPE identified and honored physical education programs from 56 schools, representing 24 states that model the essential elements for quality physical education and provide meaningful learning opportunities for all students. STARS schools exemplify excellence in teaching students the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for motor development to achieve movement competency, health-related fitness; and promote lifelong physical activity.
