Shiloh Point Elementary School is located 45 minutes north of Atlanta. There are approximately 1100 students who attend physical education classes twice a week. We have two physical education teachers, one who is nationally board certified. We have a paraprofessional who is also certified in physical education.
The physical education curriculum is aligned with the NASPE national standards and focuses on development in the areas of motor skills, improved fitness levels, sport skills, dance/gymnastics and social development/character education. Fitness education and the benefits of a healthy lifetstyle are pre-dominant themes that drive instruction. Fitness levels are assessed with the President's Challenge Physical Fitness program. Fitness reports are sent home annually to parents and fitness awards are given out at our annual Family Fitness Night.
Students are offered the opportunity for additional physical activity in our before and after school club programs. The Shiloh Point Skippers Jump Rope Club is offered in the morning before school to students in grades 3-5. There are approximately 150 students who learn rope skills to develop into routines that they have the option of performing at the Family Fitness Night in the Spring. We also work on speed/power jumping and long rope/double dutch training.
The mission of the physical education department at Shiloh Point Elementary is to promote physically active students with good character who love to move and appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. We work diligently as a team to deliver a well-rounded program for our students as we strive to be positive motivators in their lives and to truly make a difference.
