What types of responsibilities will I be
expected to do as a NASPE intern?

Internship duties will vary depending on your educational experience, major, and areas of interest, as well as on the projects and activities being conducted at NASPE during your scheduled internship. Each NASPE intern is required to complete a major project and write an article for NASPE News describing their experience.

Do I have to major in physical education, kinesiology, sports management, or a related field in order to qualify to be a NASPE intern?

Yes. NASPE work is programmatic in nature and, therefore, requires some content expertise.

When are NASPE internships offered?

Internships are available year round, but may not be available at certain times if other interns are already scheduled. Depending on funding and project work, 1-2 internship positions are available each semester.

How long do internships last?

Internships require a commitment of a minimum of four weeks of full-time work or eight weeks of part-time work. The specific length of the internship will depend on the student's institutional requirement.

How many hours will I be required to work?

Interns must commit to work a minimum of 8 hours per week. NASPE's workweek is 37.5 hours per week. Regular hours of operation are 8:00am-4:30pm. However, interns can work any time between 7:00am and 5:30pm, as agreed upon with their internship supervisor.

Does NASPE offer paid internships?

NASPE offers a limited number of paid internships. The hourly rate for interns is $10 per hour. Unpaid positions are available once the paid positions have been filled. NASPE does not provide housing, transportation, or reimbursement for relocation expenses.

Do I have to be a college student in order to participate in the internship program?

NASPE requires that all students be actively enrolled in an institution of higher learning in order to be considered for internship program openings. NASPE accepts applications from undergraduate (junior or senior status) as well as from graduate students.

In what location will NASPE internships be available? 

All internships will be conducted at NASPE/AAHPERD Headquarters located in Reston, Virginia.  NASPE's headquarters office is close to Washington, DC and parts of Maryland.
