NASPE National PETE Standards for Program National Recognition

2008 Standards are now in use.

Everything you need to start your program report is here.

2008 Initial Standards in Physical Education Teacher Education

2008 Advanced Standards in Physical Education Teacher Education

The Initial Standards relate to programs whose candidates will be receiving initial licensure in physical education upon graduation. The Advanced Standards apply to more experienced candidates whose Masters degree in physical education will be post-initial licensure.

NASPE requires that programs collect the following amount of data to provide evidence that candidates graduate with an acceptable level of knowledge, skills, and dispositions.

  • Spring 2009, Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Spring 2011 – Program must have at least 1 semester of data on ALL assessments
  • Fall 2011 and Spring 2012  – Programs must have 1 year of data on ALL assessments
  • Fall 2012 and on – Programs must have two years of data on ALL assessments
By Fall 2010 All New Program Reports Must Use the 2008 Standards.

The 2001 standards listed below are being phased out.  New program reports may use the 2001 standards through Spring 2010.

2001 Initial Standards in Physical Education Teacher Education

2001 Advanced Standards in Physical Education Teacher Education

No new program reports using the 2001 standards will be accepted after Spring 2010 (March submission dates).  After that date, a program may submit a report using the 2001 standards only if it is responding to a "conditional" decision, a "not recognized" decision, or "probation" decision related to the 2001 standards.
