NASPE Fitness Education Scope and Sequence Project

The University of Texas at Austin physical education teacher education (PETE) research team is currently conducting a two-year NASPE fitness education scope and sequence project. The team is comprised of PETE faculty members, Drs. Xiaofen Keating, Dolly Lambdin, and Louis Harrison, Jr. along with Tere Ramirez (M.Ed), Ph.D. students Brian Dauenhauer, Willy Rotich, and Janice Wallace, and master's student Tammy Arredondo. Funding for this project was made possible in part by cooperative agreement award number U58/DP-000420 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Fitness Education Project was designed to provide suggestions to NASPE regarding the instructional scope and sequence of fitness education concepts and behavioral skills from elementary school through college. It is hoped that the results of the project will help improve fitness education at all educational levels and aid in increasing knowledge and physical activity levels among youngsters (and eventually adults) resulting in a decline in obesity.
