Fitness Education Project Grant Recipients
Drs. Xiaofen Keating, Louis Harrison, and Dolly Lambdin from the University of Texas at Austin are the recipients of the one-time Fitness Education Project funding of $17,000. Funding for this project is made possible in part by cooperative agreement award number U58/DP‐000420 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to NASPE. These investigators will provide the following deliverables in increments through April 30, 2011.
- Collect all existing research and resources on fitness education for K‐16 physical education and health education (including but not limited to peer-reviewed literature, textbooks, curricula, assessment tools, and other programs currently being used by professionals in the field to deliver fitness education in physical education and health education programs) and describe them in a summary report.
- Based on the collection of research and resources and corresponding summary report, develop a NASPE document, using NASPE's national consensus process, in the form of a scope and sequence publication delineating what should be taught in fitness education to students in grades K‐16.
- Submit a manuscript to a peer‐reviewed journal summarizing the information collected and analyses, development, and review processes.
- Present a NASPE program session about the project and products at the 2011 AAHPERD National Convention
