
The Hershey's Track and Field Games program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old. Today, it's the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada.
Track and field meets take place in every state and every province in North America. Hundreds of athletes make it to the grand finale – the North American final in Hershey, Pennsylvania.You don't need to be a star athlete to participate in track & field... You just need to have fun! Each track & field meet offers running events like the 50 Meter Dash and 800 Meter Run, plus field events like the Softball Throw and the Long Jump. There are plenty of choices, and it doesn't matter how fast you can run or how far you can jump or throw – everyone's a winner!

Here are six lessons you can use with your upper elementary and middle school physical education students to improve their skills and prepare them for a safe and fun-filled event! These lessons address NASPE's National Physical Education Standards 1 (motor skills), 2 (understanding), 3 (physical activity) and 5 (responsible behavior).
