STARS Level:
Determined by the extent to which a school’s program meets the criteria,
which identify a quality program including curriculum, instructional strategies
and resources, professional development and involvement, student and staff evaluation
and communication with parents, officials and community.
An award level remains active for five years from the time of recognition at
the annual AAHPERD convention. A school is eligible to re-apply for a higher
level of recognition at any time but must re-apply no later than the submission
deadline immediately preceding the expiration date of the current STARS recognition
to maintain continuous STARS status.
SuperSTARS Level:
Demonstrates unique, innovative program components that further enhance an excellent
program. To be eligible for SuperSTARS, a program must be identified as a STARS
Level school with an average score of 2.5 or higher. These programs go beyond
STARS expectations in each of the following categories: support resources, professional
growth, curriculum and instruction, assessment and documentation of student achievement,
and articulation of student progress throughout the school program.
The criteria for SuperSTARS are intended to be broad in nature
to provide schools with the opportunity to present their unique program
qualities. Schools may apply for SuperSTARS at any time after achieving
the STARS Level recognition, but must apply within one year immediately
preceding the expiration date of their STARS status.
SuperSTARS schools must re-apply within one year immediately preceding
the expiration date of the SuperSTARS recognition to maintain the
continuous SuperSTARS status.
