STARS awards criteria are based on essential elements for a quality
physical education program, such as curriculum, instructional strategies,
assessment and evaluation, support resources (facilities, equipment,
class time, and teacher qualifications), and communications.
The application process requires the school’s physical educators
to assess their entire physical education program according to the
STARS criteria established by the National Association for Sport
and Physical Education.
A program will be recognized as a STARS school by receiving an average
score of 1.5 to 3.0 on 31 criteria. A school may continually strive
for on-going improvement and apply for higher levels of recognition
for their physical education program at any time. Those achieving
the STARS Level with an average score of 2.5 or higher are eligible
for applying for SuperSTARS recognition.
A detailed Criteria Chart which includes “Required Evidence” for
the STARS level can be downloaded. Detailed Application Instructions
can also be downloaded, which will explain the process of developing
the portfolio of evidence to be submitted.
