Three teachers provide daily health and physical education for 642 students in grades K-5. The program is focused on physical fitness. Activity time is maximized by having students engaged in activity immediately on entering the class including a daily fitness routine prior to the start of movement instruction. Multiple communications with parents provide information about skill development in addition to the quarterly grade. The program is supported by a detailed curriculum. An outstanding department website provides detailed information about various activities taught. The highlight of the program is the systematic efforts of the teachers to increase student participation in physical activity.
