The Neshaminy Middle School, Langhorne, PA is one of five secondary schools in the Neshaminy School District. Five teachers provide physical education instruction for students in grades 6-9. Authentic assessment and ongoing professional development are key elements of the program focused on presenting contemporary lifetime activities such as inline skating, biking, aquatics (including swimming, canoeing and rafting) fitness activities, orienteering and adventure/ challenge. The curriculum is aligned with district, state and national physical education standards. Technology applications include the use of heart rate monitors, pedometers and digital video replay to provide feedback to students regarding fitness and movement analysis. Multiple grants have been awarded to assist with the implementation of innovative activities in the program. Community partnerships have helped provide equipment for unique programs. The program has become known as “The Laboratory for Fun and Exercise (LIFE).”
