Adopted from birth, I lost my father at 7 and my mother, from an untreated disease, at 25. Orphaned again, I sought love promiscuously. Soon I was diagnosed with HIV. My destiny is to fight this disease! Dance is life, and LIFE became more important than ever before! I began sharing my life and dancing with the disabled. Opening a whole new world, this brings the freedom of self-expression that every human should feel. ~ Chace C.
Thursday, December 1, 2011, World AIDS Day, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will premiere Home, a new hip-hop dance choreographed by Rennie Harris and inspired by personal stories, photos, and essays of ten people impacted by HIV: the winners of the "Fight HIV Your Way" contest. Chace C., quoted above, is one of these winners.
This is the first time Ailey will present an original dance to recognize the continued HIV epidemic. The poignancy of the day – December 1 – is also symbolic in that it is both World AIDS Day and the day that the Company's founder, Alvin Ailey, passed away from the disease in 1989.
Home will premiere as part of Ailey's New York City Center season and will be performed across the country on the Company's 2012 U.S. Tour.
