ARTS ADVOCACY DAY 2012

Jefferson Jump

As Congress focuses on creating jobs and reducing the federal deficit, the arts are being threatened. It is imperative that arts advocates come together through events like Arts Advocacy Day to help educate members of Congress about the role the arts play in spurring economic growth and job creation. Arts advocate and Emmy Award-winning Actor Alec Baldwin will deliver the Americans for the Arts 25th Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy. Hear from other acclaimed artists like musician Ben Folds and congressional leaders at the Congressional Arts Kick Off on Capitol Hill. Add your voice of support and register now!

Background on Arts Advocacy Day

As an Arts Advocacy Day National Co-Sponsor, the National Dance Association joins America's leading organizations seeking enlightened cultural policies through a strong united message to the United States Congress and administration.

Once a year, Americans for the Arts organizes a two day arts awareness and advocacy event in Washington, DC. Participants learn about arts issues circulating on Capitol Hill and how to efficiently lobby Congress for increased public funding for the arts. They meet with attendees from their states to strategize how best to reap the benefits from these Congressional visits. The second day commences with the Congressional Arts Breakfast on Capitol Hill with talks by Members of Congress and celebrities as well as the presentation of the Congressional Arts Leadership Award.

This assembly rallies advocates to action as they prepare for lobbying their state delegations. For more information on Arts Advocacy Day, contact Americans for the Arts.
