Adopted from birth, I lost my father at 7 and my mother, from an untreated disease, at 25. Orphaned again, I sought love promiscuously. Soon I was diagnosed with HIV. My destiny is to fight this disease! Dance is life, and LIFE became more important than ever before! I began sharing my life and dancing with the disabled. Opening a whole new world, this brings the freedom of self-expression that every human should feel. ~ Chace C.
Thursday, December 1, 2011, World AIDS Day, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will premiere Home, a new hip-hop dance choreographed by Rennie Harris and inspired by personal stories, photos, and essays of ten people impacted by HIV: the winners of the "Fight HIV Your Way" contest. Chace C., quoted above, is one of these winners.
This is the first time Ailey will present an original dance to recognize the continued HIV epidemic. The poignancy of the day – December 1 – is also symbolic in that it is both World AIDS Day and the day that the Company's founder, Alvin Ailey, passed away from the disease in 1989.
Home will premiere as part of Ailey's New York City Center season and will be performed across the country on the Company's 2012 U.S. Tour.

Roland Petit created this pas de deux for his Carmen in 1949. The video stars himself and his star dancer and wife, Zizi Jeanmaire. At the time of its debut the duet immediately became controversial for its daring and sensual movement that shook the tradition of the ballet world to its core.
Petit was a French dancer and choreographer who was well known for his tradition-breaking originality and his talent for the pas de deux and narrative ballets. Petit also worked in French and American films and collaborated with artists such as Yves Saint-Laurent and Max Ernst. Petit passed away on July 10, 2011 at the age of 87.

New Yorkers David and Emily recently went on the fun theatrical bus tour—The Ride—and here is what they had to say:
We say there is a story on every street corner of New York City, The Ride brings that story to life with its actors, dancers, and tour guides!
The Ride is not simply a tour of New York City's Times Square District, but an interactive comedic festival that encourages audience participation and allows your guides to freelance their material through the streets of NYC. It keeps you on your toes, not knowing if the normal person walking on the sidewalk will spontaneously burst into song, dance, or ballet. The rapper gives a show-stopping performance of improvisation that includes everyone walking by him on the sidewalk--from the lone guy with his Ipod to the family of three with a baby stroller.
