Sponsored by AAHPERD's Council on Aging and Adult Development, our Teaching & Encouraging Senior Activity Workshops offer valuable tools for instructors who work with seniors. TESA helps sedentary seniors improve their balance, prevent falls, and enhance their mobility, flexibility, and quality of life through strength exercises, stretching, and gentle activity. TESA workshops educate and train activity directors and volunteers who work with older adults. Instructors do not need a background in fitness exercise.
AAHPERD member experts in aging and older adult fitness can work directly with seniors at your facility or community program, giving them the tools they need to improve their quality of life through physical activity. AAHPERD's experts also train volunteers, community leaders, and others who work with seniors to encourage daily activity and move them beyond traditional senior exercises.
Research shows that even previously inactive older adults can develop strength and mobility through well-designed fitness programs.
Older adults who exercise:
Perhaps even more importantly, older adults who exercise can enjoy a more active life, participate safely in social activities and travel, experience more energy during the day, and get a better night's sleep. Simply put, physical activity improves quality of life and extends independence for seniors.
